Pakistan, Kuwait explore strategic petroleum storage and energy cooperation

Updated on:

Pakistan and Kuwait agreed to explore building strategic petroleum storage and deepen energy cooperation, as officials highlighted fuel security and praised bilateral ties amid regional challenges.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan and Kuwait have agreed to explore opportunities for establishing strategic petroleum storage facilities in Pakistan and expanding cooperation in the energy sector.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Kuwait’s Ambassador Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Almutairi, according to a statement issued by the Petroleum Division.

Both sides discussed regional developments and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in refining and energy collaboration for mutual benefit.

The minister expressed gratitude to Kuwait for facilitating the safe dispatch of the vessel “Khairpur,” which delivered critical fuel supplies to Pakistan during a challenging period. The shipment included approximately 45,000 tonnes of diesel and 10,000 tonnes of jet fuel, arranged under special approvals following disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz.

Officials said the successful arrival of the vessel helped maintain fuel supply continuity and meet national energy demands.

Malik reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability, noting that the ongoing Middle East tensions have had far-reaching global impacts.

The Kuwaiti envoy praised Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting peace, adding that the country’s responsible approach has enhanced its standing in the international community.

The move comes weeks after Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasised the need for strategic fuel reserves and accelerated transition towards renewable energy in response to global supply shocks.
