ISLAMABAD (APP) - Minister for Energy Ali Pervaiz Malik on Monday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the successful completion of the Reko Diq project, stating that all major stakeholders remained fully engaged in advancing the mega mining initiative.
Responding to a question during Question Hour, the minister said that all requisite approvals for Reko Diq project financing had been secured from lenders and sponsors.
He added that Barrick Gold had consistently reaffirmed its commitment to the project at various forums.
Ali Pervaiz Malik said that the Chairman of Barrick Gold recently visited Pakistan and held discussions to resolve minor outstanding issues.
He emphasized that Barrick Gold, along with the Government of Pakistan and the Government of Balochistan, remained committed to taking the project to its logical conclusion.
He further said that regular engagement between the relevant teams was going on while work streams under the development plan were progressing steadily.
Highlighting the governance structure, he said that under the Reko Diq Joint Venture Agreement (JVA), a comprehensive oversight framework had been established to safeguard the interests of state-owned enterprises and the Government of Balochistan.
The framework, he said includes structured engagement with the project operator through designated committees and board-level interactions. All agreed procedures and governance protocols are being duly followed, the minister added.
