Sindh announces summer holidays for schools from June 1

Updated on:

Sindh has announced summer holidays for all public and private schools from June 1 to July 31, while Punjab schools will reopen on August 24 after an extended summer break.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Sindh government has officially announced summer vacations for schools across the province as authorities prepare for rising temperatures during the peak summer season.

According to the Sindh Education Department, all public and private schools will remain closed from June 1 until July 31. Officials confirmed that the decision will apply uniformly across educational institutions throughout the province, bringing academic activities to a halt for two months.

The announcement comes as several parts of Pakistan continue to experience increasing temperatures ahead of the summer peak, prompting provincial governments to finalise schedules aimed at protecting students and school staff from extreme heat conditions.

Education authorities in Sindh said the vacation schedule had been approved for both government-run and privately managed schools. Schools are expected to resume academic activities at the start of August following the completion of the notified break period.

The move follows a similar announcement made by the Punjab government, which has also introduced an extended summer vacation schedule for schools across the province.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced that summer holidays in Punjab would begin on Friday, May 22. Under the provincial schedule, schools in Punjab are set to reopen on August 24 after nearly three months of closure.

The staggered timelines between Sindh and Punjab highlight separate administrative decisions taken by provincial education departments in response to weather conditions and academic planning requirements.

Educational institutions across Pakistan typically adjust their annual academic calendars during the summer months as temperatures rise sharply in many regions. In recent years, authorities have increasingly revised school timings and vacation periods due to prolonged heatwaves and changing weather patterns affecting multiple cities.

The latest announcements are expected to impact millions of students enrolled in both public and private schools across Sindh and Punjab, with schools now preparing to complete examinations, result compilations and administrative work ahead of the vacation period.

Parents and students in Sindh had been awaiting the official notification as temperatures continued to climb in several districts. The confirmation of the June-to-July closure period now provides schools with a fixed academic schedule for the remainder of the current session.

In Punjab, the earlier start to vacations and the longer closure period signal broader precautions being taken amid forecasts of intense summer heat across central and southern parts of the province.
