Petrol Price hike challenged in Lahore High Court

Updated on:

A petition has been filed in Lahore High Court challenging the recent hike in petrol and diesel prices, calling the increase and petroleum levy unconstitutional.

LAHORE (Web Desk) - The recent increase in petroleum product prices has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.

The miscellaneous petition was filed by Judicial Activism Panel chief Azhar Siddique, who argued that petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan have become the highest in the region, while the continuous increase in the Petroleum Development Levy is unconstitutional.

The petition stated that the rise in petroleum prices would trigger another wave of inflation across the country and requested the court to declare the latest increase in fuel prices null and void.

It is pertinent to mention that the government has increased the price of petrol by Rs14.92 per litre, taking the new price to Rs414.78 per litre. The price of high-speed diesel has also been raised by Rs15 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs414.58 per litre.
