Punjab govt to install firewalls in 14 public libraries, costing Rs50 million, restricting access to non-educational sites and enhancing cybersecurity for academic use

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab government has approved the installation of firewall systems across state-run libraries to strengthen cybersecurity and restrict access to non-educational websites.

Under the new plan, library members will have access only to academic and research-related content, while modern firewall technology will ensure a secure digital environment.

The initiative, covering 14 public libraries across Punjab, is estimated to cost Rs50 million. Necessary approvals from relevant authorities have already been obtained, and efforts to secure the libraries’ IT infrastructure are being accelerated.

The firewall system will block access to inappropriate and non-essential content, ensuring that library networks remain safe and efficient for educational purposes.
