ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - A Supreme Court lawyer has written a letter to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, urging him to end the policy of three weekly court holidays.
In the letter, the lawyer stated that the delivery of justice is more important than fuel savings, adding that judges are bound by oath to ensure justice under all circumstances.
The lawyer said thousands of cases in the Supreme Court of Pakistan have been awaiting decisions for years, while the three-day weekly closure has caused mental stress among lawyers.
The letter acknowledged that austerity measures are necessary but argued that the doors of justice cannot remain closed.
It further urged the chief justice, as guardian of public rights, to restore the five-day working week policy in the Supreme Court.
