LAHORE (Web Desk) - The Punjab Government has prohibited banned organisations from collecting sacrificial animal hides during Eidul Azha across the province.
According to details, Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi stated during a meeting with a delegation of the Pakistan Muslim League-N Ulama and Mashaikh Wing that only institutions registered with the Punjab Charity Commission would be allowed to collect sacrificial hides.
The delegation was led by Dr Mufti Intikhab Ahmad Noori.
The Punjab government also requested religious scholars to raise awareness during Friday sermons about the prevention of drug abuse.
Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi said the provincial government has launched a historic Rs21 billion programme for mosque imams, adding that Rs6 billion in honorariums has already been distributed among imams across Punjab.
He said all available resources are being utilised to maintain law and order in the province, while public awareness campaigns are underway to promote a drug-free society.
The home secretary added that the Punjab government is running literacy programmes to provide education facilities to every child in the province, including educational initiatives for illiterate prisoners under the chief minister’s literacy programme.
He stressed that religious scholars have a key role in eliminating violent extremism from society.
On the occasion, Dr Mufti Intikhab Ahmad Noori said the honorarium programme for imams launched by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is a historic initiative, adding that efforts are also being made to improve educational standards in religious seminaries.
