GILGIT (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during his visit to Gilgit-Baltistan, participated in inauguration and groundbreaking ceremonies of various development projects and said he was pleased to visit one of Pakistan’s most beautiful regions and meet talented and hardworking students.
The prime minister inaugurated Safe City projects in Gilgit and Skardu and also launched an expanded project for the distribution of free solar panels in the region. In addition, he performed the groundbreaking of a 100-megawatt solar energy project in Gilgit.
He directed the relevant authorities to complete the solar energy project by the middle of next year.
Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said talented students are the pride of Pakistan and earned laptops through their hard work and abilities. He stated that the laptops were not distributed as a favour but as recognition of students’ academic merit, adding that the entire distribution process was conducted purely on merit.
The prime minister said financially weak but talented students were also provided laptops on merit and added that he had never compromised on merit throughout his political career.

Speaking about Daanish Schools, he said the initiative was launched during his tenure as Punjab chief minister to promote quality education. He added that the schools would be equipped with modern facilities and would provide free and quality education to children from poor and middle-class families.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the establishment of four Daanish Schools in Gilgit, Ghanche, Stur and Skardu, where separate campuses for boys and girls would be set up and all facilities would be provided free of cost.
He said he believes in equal development across the country and stressed that the progress of all provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan guarantees Pakistan’s overall development.
The prime minister also said Pakistan played an effective political and military role in the ceasefire and mediation process between Iran and the United States.
He stated that Pakistan’s efforts for peace in the region would be remembered in golden words, while the services of Ishaq Dar and Syed Asim Munir would also always be acknowledged.
