Punjab PDMA warns of heatwave from May 7-11, temperatures up to 47°C expected, citizens advised precautions and emergency services alerted.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Provincial Disaster Management Authority Punjab has forecast a severe heatwave across the province from May 7 to 11.

According to the authority, temperatures in upper Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Sargodha, are expected to range between 39°C and 43°C, with a noticeable rise in heat levels.

In southern Punjab, temperatures may climb between 43°C and 47°C, affecting areas such as Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan.

Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed has directed commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain alert, warning that even nighttime temperatures will stay above normal.

He cautioned that intense heat could trigger dust storms and urged children, women and elderly citizens to take precautionary measures.

Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, stay hydrated, while farmers have been instructed to protect crops and livestock in advance.

The commissioner also directed Rescue 1122 to remain on high alert to assist heatstroke and dehydration victims, and ensure relief camps, clean drinking water, ORS and first aid facilities in urban areas.

PDMA added that mobile health teams will remain active to handle heat-related cases, while rising temperatures may accelerate snowmelt in northern regions.
