ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that digitisation and ongoing reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue are beginning to deliver positive results.
Chairing a review meeting on FBR reforms, the prime minister was presented with a report by a task force formed to address tax litigation issues.
Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the efforts of task force head Shad Muhammad Khan and its members for compiling the report, and approved the proposed action plan.
He directed that the plan be implemented with clear timelines and called for strengthening the Alternate Dispute Resolution system to ensure swift resolution of tax disputes.
The prime minister said the improved system would reduce the burden on courts and expedite decisions in tax-related cases. He also instructed authorities to establish the Centralized Litigation Management System at the earliest.
He further directed that the legal wing of the FBR be strengthened with qualified human resources, ensuring merit-based recruitment.
During the meeting, the task force presented a six-point reform plan, including the formation of case scrutiny committees, linking officers’ performance reports with case outcomes, and other structural improvements.
Participants were briefed that a digital CLMS would be developed to better organise tax dispute data, enabling accurate reporting and timely follow-up of cases.
The meeting was informed that Rs24 billion has been recovered for the national exchequer this year through decisions made under the ADR forum.
Federal ministers Azam Nazeer Tarar, Musadik Malik, Ahsan Iqbal Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Attaullah Tarar, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, along with senior officials, attended the meeting.
