US chose war and the world is facing consequences, says Iran

Updated on:

Iran has accused the United States of choosing war and warned that global consequences are being felt, urging Washington to show genuine goodwill in diplomacy.

TEHRAN (Dunya News) – Iran has maintained the United States is deliberately choosing a path of conflict, warning that the consequences of such decisions are now being felt across the world.

The remarks come amid heightened geopolitical tensions and ongoing diplomatic friction between Tehran and Washington. Iranian officials have reiterated their position that responsibility for regional instability lies with US actions, while stressing that their own priority remains ending hostilities.

Speaking in a statement issued from Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the war was the result of a conscious choice made by the United States. He argued that the international community will ultimately hold Washington accountable for the consequences, adding that Iran remains focused on efforts to bring the conflict to an end rather than prolonging confrontation.

Baghaei emphasised that the effects of the conflict extend beyond the region, stating that global repercussions are already visible. According to him, the international community is expected to assess responsibility for the situation, with particular attention directed towards US policy decisions that, he said, contributed to escalation.

He further reiterated that Iran’s position is centred on de-escalation and ending the cycle of conflict, rather than widening it. The spokesperson framed Iran’s approach as one driven by restraint in contrast to what he described as unilateral military decisions by Washington.

Addressing the state of diplomatic engagement, Baghaei noted that Iran continues to engage with the United States in an environment marked by deep mistrust and suspicion. He referred to previous incidents, including what he described as unprovoked US actions in June last year and on 28 February, saying these events remain a source of concern for Tehran.

He added that such developments cannot be overlooked in shaping Iran’s current diplomatic posture. According to him, negotiations are being conducted with caution, informed by past experiences that have left limited confidence in the process.

Iran, he said, intends to remain highly vigilant at every stage of diplomatic engagement and will avoid investing time in what it considers complex and unproductive negotiations.

Baghaei stated that Iran will not engage in discussions that fail to produce meaningful outcomes, stressing that past experiences have shaped a more guarded approach. He added that Tehran expects clarity and seriousness from Washington if any progress is to be made.

He further remarked that if the United States is genuinely serious about diplomacy, it must demonstrate goodwill and act accordingly to make use of any available opportunity for progress.
