Prominent religious scholar shot dead in Charsadda

Prominent scholar and former MPA Maulana Idrees was shot dead in Utmanzai, Charsadda; two aides injured. Police launched a search as community mourns the attack

CHARSADDA (Dunya news) – A well-known religious scholar and former MPA, Maulana Idrees, was shot dead by unidentified armed assailants in the Utmanzai area of Charsadda.

Police said the attackers targeted Maulana Idrees’ vehicle, killing him on the spot. Two gunmen accompanying him were seriously injured in the attack.

Authorities have transferred the body of Maulana Idrees and the injured to a hospital.

Police have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the attackers. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The attack has caused widespread fear in the community, with local residents, religious figures, and political circles expressing deep sorrow and condolences over the killing.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow and grief over the attack in Charsadda that led to the martyrdom of former JUI MPA and renowned cleric Maulana Muhammad Idrees Tarangzai.

The prime minister, in a statement extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

He prayed for the elevation of the deceased’s ranks in Jannah and for patience and strength for his family during this difficult time.

The prime minister also prayed for the swift recovery of the injured police personnel.
