TEHRAN (Web Desk) - Iran’s parliament is preparing new legislation to regulate maritime traffic through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, under the guidance of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

The move comes amid heightened regional tensions and follows recent conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

According to Iranian media, Deputy Speaker Ali Nikzad said during a briefing in Hormozgan province that Iran would not relinquish what he described as its legitimate rights over the strait, a key global route for oil and gas shipments.

He said the proposed law would align with international law and the rights of neighboring states, while setting clear conditions for vessels transiting the waterway.

Under the draft legislation, Israeli ships would be barred from passing through the strait, along with vessels from countries Iran labels as “aggressors.”

Other ships would be required to comply with new regulations approved by parliament.

Nikzad added that the law would be enforced by Iran’s armed forces with the approval of the Supreme Leader.

The deputy speaker also said tolls would be imposed on vessels for services such as security, navigation, and weather support.

Revenue generated would be directed toward defence, infrastructure, and public welfare initiatives.

Nikzad criticized Donald Trump, alleging that US efforts to blockade Iranian ports had failed.

He further stated that conditions in the Persian Gulf would not revert to their pre-conflict state following hostilities that began on February 28.

The conflict saw US and Israeli strikes on Iran, followed by Iranian retaliation against regional targets.

A ceasefire was reached on April 8 through mediation by Pakistan, with talks continuing but no formal agreement yet finalized.
