How much tax on petrol, diesel per litre? details emerge

New details show petrol carries 32% tax and diesel 21% tax in Pakistan, including levy, customs duty and climate charges as fuel price structure is further clarified.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Details regarding taxes imposed on petrol and diesel per litre have emerged following the recent revision in petroleum product prices in Pakistan.

According to sources in the Ministry of Energy, petrol prices include around 32 percent in taxes. A single litre of petrol contains Rs129.72 in taxes, while customs duty of Rs23.72 per litre is also included.

Officials stated that petrol prices also include a petroleum levy of Rs103.50 per litre, along with a climate support levy of Rs2.50 per litre.

Govt announces reduction in jet fuel, kerosene prices

For diesel, sources said that around 21 percent of the price consists of taxes. A single litre of diesel includes Rs82.81 in taxes, while customs duty amounts to Rs51.62 per litre.

The Ministry of Energy further added that diesel prices also include a petroleum levy of Rs28.69 per litre and a climate support levy of Rs2.50 per litre.

The breakdown highlights the significant share of taxes and levies in the overall fuel pricing structure in the country.
