Internet services disrupted across Pakistan due to fuel supply shortages

Updated on:

Diesel shortages in Pakistan are disrupting 20,000 telecom towers, affecting internet services for 60 million users and threatening wider communication infrastructure nationwide.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan is facing significant internet disruptions as rising diesel prices and supply shortages impact the operation of telecom towers, affecting millions of users nationwide.

The Senate Standing Committee on IT has taken notice of the issue and planed to review the situation in today’s scheduled session.

According to sources, over 55,000 cellular towers are installed across the country, of which 30 to 40 percent are currently affected by diesel shortages. Approximately 20,000 towers have either partially or completely suspended services due to fuel constraints.

Telecom insiders estimated that nearly 60 million users are experiencing internet disruptions, while over 200 million citizens rely on these towers for internet connectivity and other services.

Experts warned that if diesel supply is not restored promptly, the broader communication infrastructure could face further disruptions, impacting business operations and daily life across the country.
