MOSCOW (Web Desk) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump held a significant telephonic conversation, discussing a range of global issues including Iran’s nuclear programme and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
According to the Kremlin, President Putin presented a number of proposals and ideas to Trump aimed at easing tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme.
He stressed the need for a diplomatic solution in the current situation.
Putin also proposed a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine next month to mark the anniversary of the end of World War II.
A Kremlin spokesperson said the aim of the proposal is to promote peace on humanitarian grounds during a historically significant period.
Both leaders also agreed to work toward improving bilateral relations and ensuring stability in global markets, particularly oil prices.
Earlier, President Donald Trump has indicated that the United States will maintain a naval blockade on Iran until Tehran agrees to a deal addressing Washington’s concerns over its nuclear programme.
In an interview with Axios, Trump described the blockade as a highly effective measure, suggesting it exerts greater pressure than direct military strikes.
He claimed the restrictions are significantly impacting Iran and are intended to prevent the country from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Trump said Iran is seeking a resolution but warned that the blockade would remain in place unless a satisfactory agreement is reached.
He reiterated his position that Tehran must not be allowed to develop nuclear capabilities.
