KAQRACHI (Dunya News) - State Bank of Pakistan has announced that banks across the country will remain closed on May 1 in observance of Labour Day, following the federal government’s declaration of a public holiday.
In a notification issued on Tuesday, the central bank said all banking institutions, including the State Bank, would remain shut on Friday, May 1, 2026.
Labour Day, also known as May Day, is observed worldwide to show solidarity with workers and recognise the contributions and rights of the labour force.
The day also highlights efforts to safeguard labourers and industrial workers from exploitation while promoting job protection and workers’ welfare.
