ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has firmly rejected claims circulated by Afghan media alleging a military strike on a university in Afghanistan’s Kunar province, describing the reports as baseless and fabricated.
In an official statement issued from Islamabad, authorities responded to a report broadcast by TOLOnews, which claimed that Pakistani forces carried out strikes on Monday in Kunar. According to the report, the alleged operation targeted Syed Jamaluddin Afghan University as well as nearby residential areas, resulting in three fatalities and 45 injuries.
The ministry categorically denied the allegations, stating that no such attack had taken place. Officials described the claims as “entirely false” and part of a deliberate attempt to generate sympathy and deflect attention from internal dynamics within Afghanistan.
According to the statement, Pakistan’s security operations are conducted strictly on the basis of verified intelligence and are aimed at addressing specific threats. Authorities emphasised that the country does not target civilian infrastructure, including educational institutions, rejecting the suggestion that a university had been struck.
The ministry further asserted that the report formed part of a recurring pattern in which unverified or misleading information is disseminated through certain media outlets. It added that such narratives are often amplified beyond Afghanistan, particularly in regional media, in what it described as an effort to shape perceptions against Pakistan.
Officials also linked the claims to broader security concerns, alleging that such reporting attempts to obscure support for militant elements referred to by Pakistan as “Fitna al-Khawarij”. The statement maintained that misinformation campaigns serve to divert attention from these issues.
Reiterating its position, the ministry stressed that no attack had occurred on Syed Jamaluddin Afghan University and dismissed the allegations as propaganda lacking any factual basis.
