Defence Minister killed as militants launch assault across Mali

MALI (Dunya News) - Militants carried out attacks on military installations in several cities of Mali, including Kati, Bamako, Gao, and Kidal, resulting in the death of Defence Minister Sadio Camara.

According to media reports, an attack was carried out a day earlier on the residence of Sadio Camara in the garrison town of Kati, located near the capital Bamako.

Following the attack, reports of his death emerged.

General Camara was considered one of the most influential leaders of Mali’s military government, which came to power after coups in 2020 and 2021.

He was widely regarded as a key figure within the current military leadership and a potential future leader.

His death is being described as a major blow to the country’s armed forces.

The attackers did not limit their operations to Kati alone but also launched assaults in Bamako, Gao, Kidal and other areas.
