China rejects Trump claim over seized Iranian cargo ship

China rejects Trump’s claim linking seized Iranian ship to Beijing, calls allegation baseless, urges separation of trade from political disputes.

BEIJING (Dunya News) - China has strongly rejected remarks by former US President Donald Trump, who claimed that a seized Iranian-flagged cargo ship was a gift from China to Iran.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the allegation was baseless, emphasizing that normal international trade should not be disrupted or politicized.

He stated that China has repeatedly clarified its position, describing the country as a responsible major power committed to fulfilling its international obligations.

The ministry dismissed the claims as unverified and reiterated that Beijing opposes linking global trade to political disputes.

Earlier, Trump suggested that goods found on the seized vessel could have been provided by China, though he did not offer specific details about the cargo.

According to United States Central Command, the vessel remains in US custody after it reportedly failed to comply with naval blockade instructions in the Strait of Hormuz.

The United States had imposed a blockade in the strategic waterway last week amid heightened tensions with Iran.

Recent talks between Iran and the United States were facilitated by Pakistan, but no final agreement has yet been reached.
