New York (Dunya News) - United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the announcement by Donald Trump to extend the ceasefire with Iran.
In a statement, Guterres expressed full support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts, saying he hopes ongoing negotiations will lead to a comprehensive and lasting resolution. He described the extension as an important step toward reducing tensions.
The UN chief noted that the ceasefire creates an opportunity for diplomacy between the United States and Iran. He urged all parties to respect the truce and avoid any actions that could escalate the situation.
According to UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, the development is a significant move toward de-escalation and provides a valuable chance for dialogue and confidence-building between the two sides.
The Secretary-General’s office also called on all parties to build on this progress, strictly adhere to the ceasefire, and engage in constructive and positive negotiations.
Guterres reiterated support for Pakistan’s role in facilitating talks and expressed hope that its efforts will help create conditions for a durable and peaceful solution.
