ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan was observing the ‘International Mother Earth Day’ with a strong sense of commitment, emphasizing the critical importance of protecting the planet and fulfilling collective responsibilities.

In his message on the observance of the day on April 22, the prime minister highlighted that the Earth’s natural resources were essential for sustaining human life and development, as well as nurturing all forms of flora and fauna.

He reaffirmed that the Government of Pakistan is committed to protecting natural resources, biodiversity, and the environment, while actively pursuing measures to combat climate change, including promoting renewable energy.

He also stressed the importance of public awareness to ensure both individual and collective responsibility in safeguarding the environment, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

Furthermore, the prime minister called for enhanced international cooperation and coordinated global strategies to address environmental challenges effectively.

He urged the citizens to renew their commitment to environmental protection, stating that collective efforts were essential to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment for future generations, which he described as the foundation of a prosperous future.

The prime minister noted that the world was currently facing serious environmental challenges, particularly climate change, which is adversely affecting natural resources, climate patterns, and overall quality of life.

Pakistan, he said, remained among the countries most vulnerable to climate change, underscoring the need to strengthen efforts to preserve the planet’s natural balance.

The prime minister pointed out that increasing climate intensity and unusual environmental changes were clear indicators of ongoing ecological disruption.
