Punjab Assembly reviews air ambulance costs and operations

Punjab Assembly reviews air ambulance service, reporting two aircraft, 254 patients transported, and over Rs1.63 billion spent on operations.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Detailed figures on the cost and performance of the Punjab government’s air ambulance service were presented during a session of the Punjab Assembly.

The query was raised by Member of Assembly Nadeem Qureshi regarding the service’s efficiency. In response, officials stated that the air ambulance project was specifically designed to transport critically ill patients requiring intensive care.

According to the Emergency Services Department Punjab, two air ambulances are currently operational in the province, acquired under a rental agreement. No expenditure was recorded in the fiscal year 2023–24, while Rs1.05 billion was spent during the fiscal year 2025–26 on the service.

The department further informed that three medical officers, all BS-17 grade doctors, have been assigned to the air ambulance service. Since January 1, 2024, a total of 254 critically ill patients have been transported.

Officials added that overall expenditures on patient transfers have reached Rs1.63 billion so far, while Rs58 million has already been spent in the ongoing fiscal year 2025–26. The air ambulance service is currently operating under Rescue 1122.
