LAHORE (Dunya News) –Police have registered a case against two constables and suspended other policemen including an SHO of Defence Police for torturing a suspect in custody, Dunya News reported here on Sunday.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran ordered Cantt SP to submit a report on the case within 24 hours, vowing police accountability would continue.
A case has been registered against Lady Constable Hafsa Shafiq and Constable Sajid Ali on the complaint of sub-inspector Sheraz Ahmad.
The DIG suspended SHO Khuram Shahzad and other policemen and issued a show-cause notice to the SDPO concerned.
According to police, the action was taken after a video went viral featuring the two constables subjecting a suspect to torture during interrogation.
The DIG Faisal Kamran said there was zero tolerance for police torture and misbehaviour with suspects in custody, vowing respect and dealing with citizens in accordance with law will be ensured.
