Ukraine violated Easter ceasefire 6,000 times: Russia

Updated on:

Russia accuses Ukraine of 6,000 ceasefire violations and raises concern over Russian child held in Mexico, demanding consular access and urging protection of its citizens abroad.

MOSCOW (Shahid Ghuman) - Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has strongly reacted to alleged violations of the Easter ceasefire in Ukraine and the detention of a Russian child in Mexico.

Maria Zakharova alleged that Ukraine did not demonstrate serious efforts for peace during the Easter ceasefire period, claiming that Ukrainian forces violated the ceasefire more than 6,000 times during the truce announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin from April 11 to 12.

She further stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not issue any clear orders regarding the ceasefire, indicating what she described as a lack of genuine intent from Kyiv for peace.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also summoned Mexico’s ambassador in Moscow, Eduardo Villegas Megías, expressing serious concern over the alleged illegal detention of a Russian child.

Maria Zakharova said that Russian minor Kristina Romanova is being held in a closed facility under Mexico’s child welfare authorities. Moscow has demanded immediate consular access and the child’s return to Russia.

She added that Russia is closely monitoring the situation and remains in contact with State Duma Deputy Chairperson Anna Kuznetsova and Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova.

According to her, the Russian embassy in Mexico has been working on the case since 2023, and the child has repeatedly expressed a desire to return to Russia. Moscow said both issues are of international importance and it will continue efforts to protect its citizens and address regional conflicts.
