NEW YORK (Dunya News) - Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad while speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, said that Pakistan calls for the restoration of normal maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz.

In his address on debate on the Strait of Hormuz at the UN General Assembly, Asim Iftikhar said Pakistan has a clear and firm position on the situation in the Middle East. He added that the conflict has affected not only the region but also countries beyond it.

Asim Iftikhar said that from the very beginning of the crisis, Pakistan has prioritized de-escalation, cessation of hostilities and return to dialogue for a peaceful diplomatic solution to the crisis.

He said Pakistan has supported de-escalation and a ceasefire, and successfully hosted the Islamabad Talks on April 11–12. These talks were made possible through Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, and through them Pakistan is working toward ending the conflict. He also expressed solidarity with Gulf Cooperation Council countries during difficult times.

Asim Iftikhar noted that the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz is negatively affecting countries worldwide. He warned that if military tensions and disruptions continue, humanitarian difficulties will increase and may expand into broader economic problems across the region. He emphasized that Pakistan supports reopening the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible and restoring normal conditions.
