ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Security has been placed on high alert in the federal capital Islamabad due to ongoing diplomatic activities ahead of likely second round of talks between the United States and Iran.
According to sources, security arrangements have been completed at all sensitive locations in Islamabad, including the Red Zone. Additional police force has been called in from across Punjab. All transport terminals in the twin cities have been closed from 11:00 PM on Thursday.
According to the district administration, vehicles already traveling toward Rawalpindi will be allowed to proceed to their respective terminals after necessary procedures are completed.
It is pertinent to mention here that the White House has indicated that the next round of negotiations with Iran is likely to take place in Islamabad, while dismissing reports of any extension to the current ceasefire agreement.
Speaking during a news briefing, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said that “constructive” discussions with Iran are ongoing and are expected to continue at the same venue where earlier talks were held.
She clarified that the United States has not requested an extension of the ceasefire.
Leavitt highlighted Pakistan’s central role in the diplomatic process, describing it as the sole intermediary in talks with Iran.
