MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News) - The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) police have arrested a suspected operative allegedly working for India’s intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), officials confirmed.
Addressing a press conference, Inspector General of Police Liaquat Ali Malik stated that police in Rawalakot carried out a timely operation leading to the arrest of the suspect, identified as Irfan.
According to police, the suspect was involved in reconnaissance of sensitive locations and recording videos, which were then shared with foreign handlers. Authorities further claimed that he was also involved in planning to target military installations and educational institutions.
The IG said the swift action by law enforcement agencies thwarted potential threats and exposed a broader RAW espionage network.
He added that the suspect was in contact with RAW through social media and had been continuously transmitting sensitive information. Officials believe such elements were systematically identifying key locations in an attempt to undermine national security.
Police also stated that the suspect was allegedly involved in planning attacks targeting civilians, but timely intervention prevented any possible incident.
The IG reiterated that the sanctity of the region will be protected at all costs, and security agencies remain committed to maintaining peace and stability.
It is worth noting that three days earlier, Pakistan’s security agencies arrested three individuals accused of espionage for RAW during a successful intelligence-based operation. The suspects belonged to Narowal, Bahawalpur, and Rawalakot.
