Fact Check: Claim about Erdogan's statement on Israel found false

Updated on:

The assertion that Erdoğan said Türkiye would attack Israel in the absence of Pakistan’s mediation is completely false and has been debunked.

(Web Desk) - A statement attributed to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan circulating on social media claiming that Türkiye would have attacked Israel if Pakistan had not mediated talks between the United States and Iran has been proven false.

The claim spread widely on X, where a video was shared on April 11 showing Erdoğan speaking in Turkish. The post falsely suggested that he praised Pakistan’s diplomatic role and warned of Turkish action against Israel if Pakistan had not intervened.

The viral content gained millions of views and was widely shared across social media platforms. However, fact-checking confirms that the claim is misleading and not based on any real statement made by the Turkish president.

Investigations show that the video in question is from an April 10 speech delivered at a conference of Asian political parties (ICAPP) in Istanbul. The original footage was broadcast by Turkish state media TRT Haber.

In the actual speech, Erdoğan was discussing alleged Israeli violations of ceasefire agreements in Lebanon and accused Israel of violence against civilians, women, and children. However, he did not mention Pakistan, nor did he make any reference to attacking Israel.

Türkiye’s Disinformation Counter-Action Center also confirmed that no such statement was made by Erdoğan. Turkish media outlets likewise did not report any such claim.
