China urges reopening of Hormuz Strait, stressing safe navigation and peace opportunity, while Iran signals readiness for negotiations amid rising regional tensions.

BEIJING (Dunya News) - China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has told his Iranian counterpart that reopening the Strait of Hormuz is a shared demand of the international community.

According to a Chinese official statement, Wang Yi made these remarks during a phone conversation with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

He emphasized that as a coastal state of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s sovereignty, security, and legitimate rights must be respected.

Wang Yi further said that freedom of navigation and safe maritime passage through the strait must be ensured, adding that the global community seeks restoration of normal shipping activities.

He noted that the current situation has reached a delicate stage between war and peace, but also presents an opportunity for peace.

According to the statement, Abbas Araghchi informed Wang Yi that Iran is ready to continue efforts to find a reasonable and realistic solution through peaceful negotiations.
