White House spokesperson says that the United States has not requested an extension of the ceasefire

WASHINGTON (Dunya News) - The White House has indicated that the next round of negotiations with Iran is likely to take place in Islamabad, while dismissing reports of any extension to the current ceasefire agreement.

Speaking during a news briefing, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said that “constructive” discussions with Iran are ongoing and are expected to continue at the same venue where earlier talks were held.

She clarified that the United States has not requested an extension of the ceasefire.

Leavitt highlighted Pakistan’s central role in the diplomatic process, describing it as the sole intermediary in talks with Iran.

She praised Islamabad’s efforts, stating that Pakistani negotiators have proven to be “exceptional mediators” and commended the country’s serious commitment to advancing ceasefire efforts.

On broader geopolitical developments, the spokesperson said that Chinese President Xi Jinping had informed US President Donald Trump that China is not supplying weapons to Iran.

Addressing maritime tensions, Leavitt stated that a blockade remains in place in the Strait of Hormuz.

She added that ships departing from Iranian ports are subject to a complete blockade, although vessels that do not contribute to Iran’s economy are being allowed free movement.
