KP budget 2026-27 to focus on youth, middle-class development: Afridi

KP CM says 2026–27 budget will focus on youth and middle class, with plans for safe cities, solarization, industrial estates and major development projects

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has said that the 2026–27 budget of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will focus on youth, poor and middle-class people.

He made these remarks while chairing a meeting of the Planning and Development Department in Peshawar.

The meeting reviewed new development projects of Excise, Local Government, Climate Change, Food, Housing, Interior, Agriculture, Livestock and Energy departments.

It was also proposed to convert Kohat, Mardan, Peshawar and merged districts into safe cities under the next development programme.

The Chief Minister directed shifting of the grain warehouse from Peshawar and ordered construction of a modern alternative storage facility.

The meeting also discussed modern warehouses in divisional headquarters, strengthening of prisons and police stations, upgrading Special Branch with modern gadgets and establishing district CTD setup.

Proposals were also discussed for land purchase of eight excise police stations, mini solar grids in merged districts and restoration of micro hydropower stations in Tirah.

Plans for new feeders and a 22-megawatt Patrak Shringal hydropower project were also reviewed for inclusion in the development programme.

The Chief Minister directed solarization of all government offices in merged districts and promotion of modern skills training for youth.

He also directed promotion of e-commerce, establishment of small industrial estates and financial support for youth business units.

A three-year plan was sought to increase forest cover and special environmental protection schemes were also proposed.

Further directions included real-time animal disease monitoring, biogas projects, interest-free loans for horticulture and early completion of animal rights policy.

He also directed fast-tracking solarization of houses in merged districts and review of micro hydropower potential projects.
