LAHORE (Web Desk) - The Punjab government has decided to strengthen digital security and monitoring systems at the grassroots level across the province.

Under the plan, Safe City cameras will be installed in streets and neighborhoods of all union councils across Punjab, covering around 7,000 union councils.

Working papers for the installation of cameras have been prepared and a summary has been sent to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for approval.

The project is expected to cost Rs 5 billion.

On the directions of the Chief Minister, a monitoring system will be established at the union council level, with modern technology used to oversee every street and locality.

Officials say the project is aimed at reducing street crime and improving public safety, while expanding the Safe City system to the grassroots level across Punjab.
