LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Punjab Government has sought Rs24 billion from the Finance Department for a bikers subsidy scheme aimed at providing relief to motorcycle users across the province.
According to sources, the Finance Department has forwarded a summary to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for approval. Funds will be released once the chief minister grants formal consent.
Officials estimate that around 12.5 million bikers in Punjab will benefit from the initiative, with a proposed monthly subsidy of Rs2,000 per rider.
Sources in the Excise Department stated that the government plans to provide a subsidy of Rs100 per litre of petrol to bikers. More than 8 million riders have already registered for the scheme.
Data further reveals that nearly 50 million motorcycles have been registered in Punjab since 1980. The subsidy program is expected to be launched after the completion of the ongoing registration process.
