ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam on Sunday said that the Islamabad Talks have laid the foundation for a sustainable diplomatic framework.

In a statement on social media platform X, Reza Amiri Moghadam said that the Islamabad Talks are not just an event but an ongoing process. He expressed gratitude for the goodwill initiative of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

He added that Pakistani institutions worked tirelessly to ensure the organization of the Islamabad Talks, and that the negotiations were made possible through the continuous efforts of the Pakistani government, army, police, and security forces.

“Talks were held in a dignified and befitting atmosphere for the guests in a calm, orderly and secure environment with equal logistic opportunities for both sides,” he said.

Iran and the United States failed to reach an agreement after marathon talks in Islamabad on Sunday and US Vice President JD Vance acknowledged no deal was reached.

The US delegation left Islamabad so after the inconclusive rounds of talks end. Before its departure, Vance addressed a press conference.

Iran would not commit to not seeking a nuclear weapon, he said.

Vance said he came "in good faith", but added the US needed to see "fundamental commitment of will" from Iran to not develop nuclear weapons.

Iran's foreign ministry said the talks were "intensive", and called on Washington to refrain from "excessive demands and unlawful requests."

The talks covered issues including the Strait of Hormuz and Tehran’s nuclear programme, according to Iran’s foreign ministry.
