ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei has said that the success of the Islamabad talks depends on the United States demonstrating seriousness and good faith, adding that no agreement should be expected from a single meeting.
In a message posted on X, the spokesperson said that no one had expected a quick agreement. He noted that the complexity of the issues and circumstances was a key factor, and that some new topics had also been introduced during the talks. He added that Iran would continue its efforts on the diplomatic front to secure its rights and interests.
Baghaei said it had been a long and busy day for the Iranian delegation in Islamabad. Intense negotiations, which began in the morning under Pakistan’s serious efforts and mediation, have continued without interruption. During this time, multiple messages and written drafts were exchanged between the parties.
The spokesperson stated that discussions covered the Strait of Hormuz, nuclear issues, compensation for war damages, the lifting of sanctions, and a complete end to war in the region.
He added that while agreement had been reached on several points, differences of opinion on two or three key issues prevented a comprehensive deal. Consultations and contacts between Iran, Pakistan, and other friendly countries in the region will continue.
“Diplomacy never ends; it is a means of safeguarding national interests,” he said.
The spokesperson reiterated that success should not be expected from a single round of talks, stressing that the outcome of the diplomatic process depends on the opposing side’s seriousness, good faith, and recognition of Iran’s legitimate rights and interests.”
Baghaei expressed gratitude to the Government of Pakistan and its warm and dignified people for hosting the talks and for their sincere efforts in advancing the diplomatic process.
