RAWALPINDI (Web Desk) - Following a significant reduction in petroleum product prices, good news has emerged for the public as transport fares have been reduced.
A successful meeting was held in Rawalpindi between the Regional Transport Authority and transporters, where it was decided to cut fares for passenger and goods vehicles by 5 to 26 percent.
The meeting was chaired by Asad Abbas Shirazi and attended by representatives of transport unions and the goods transport association.
After detailed consultations, it was decided that fares for diesel-run vehicles would be reduced by 15 percent, while fares for petrol-run vehicles would see a 5 percent decrease. Meanwhile, goods transport fares will be reduced by 26 percent.
The decision was taken following a 3.13 percent decrease in petrol prices and a 25.91 percent reduction in diesel prices, prompting authorities and transport stakeholders to pass on the relief to the public.
