ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday held a high-level meeting with an Iranian delegation during the ongoing Islamabad Talks, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to playing a constructive mediation role for regional and global peace.
The Iranian delegation was led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Consultative Assembly, and included Abbas Araghchi. The meeting took place in Islamabad as part of broader diplomatic engagements aimed at fostering dialogue and cooperation.
During the interaction, the prime minister appreciated Iran’s active participation in the Islamabad Talks, describing it as a positive step towards strengthening diplomatic engagement in the region. He reiterated Pakistan’s sincere resolve to continue contributing meaningfully as a mediator, with the objective of building momentum towards tangible outcomes that support both regional and global stability.
Sharif emphasised that Pakistan’s approach to mediation is rooted in goodwill and a commitment to peaceful resolution of conflicts, underscoring the importance of sustained dialogue among regional stakeholders. The discussions reflected a shared interest in advancing stability through constructive diplomatic channels.
The meeting was also attended by key members of Pakistan’s leadership. From the Pakistani side, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi were present, highlighting the significance of the engagement at both political and security levels.
