ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have emphasized the importance of fully implementing Pakistan’s 1973 Constitution.
They issued separate messages on the occasion of the Constitution Day.
President Zardari stated that the Constitution represents Pakistan’s democratic identity, federal balance, and protection of citizens’ rights.
He highlighted that the framework was established under the leadership of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, reflecting their political vision and courageous efforts.
The president underscored that the Constitution is not merely a legal document but a guiding principle for daily governance, and only through complete adherence can democracy and justice be upheld.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the Constitution as a sacred pact between the state and its citizens, legally and morally defining the rights and responsibilities of both.
He noted that the 1973 Constitution laid the foundation for a parliamentary democratic system and a robust administrative structure, safeguarding fundamental human rights and providing a legal framework for their implementation.
The prime minister also praised Pakistan’s federal system and the role of all provincial units in promoting national unity, economic development, and prosperity, expressing confidence in a bright future for the country.
Other leaders, including PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, echoed the importance of the Constitution in ensuring national unity, democratic stability, transparency, and public accountability.
