KARACHI (Dunya News) - The judicial commission’s investigation report into the Gul Plaza fire has revealed that firefighting and alarm systems were not present in the building.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to review the judicial commission’s investigation report on the Gul Plaza fire incident. The Chief Minister appreciated the commission’s investigation and efforts, and directed that comprehensive reforms be introduced for building safety, including making fire safety audits mandatory for all buildings.

The Chief Minister was also given a detailed briefing on the judicial commission’s findings regarding the Gul Plaza fire incident. It was stated that the fire at Gul Plaza occurred on January 17, 2026.

The investigation report revealed that there was no firefighting system or alarm system in Gul Plaza. Arrangements for safe evacuation in the building were also inadequate, while congestion and construction work outside the building further hampered rescue operations.

The Chief Minister formed a committee comprising three ministers -- Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, and Jam Ikramullah Dharejo -- to review the report as soon as possible and present its recommendations to the Chief Minister.

The meeting was attended by provincial ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Nasir Hussain Shah, and Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, as well as Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab and other concerned officials.
