ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The federal government is considering a proposal to review petroleum product prices on a weekly basis instead of the current fortnightly mechanism.
According to sources, the Ministry of Energy has prepared a working paper and briefed the prime minister on key proposals regarding petroleum pricing. The proposal suggests revising the prices of petrol and diesel every week to better align them with fluctuations in the international oil market.
Officials said the move aims to ensure that domestic fuel prices remain competitive and reflect global market trends more quickly. Under the existing system, petroleum prices are reviewed every 15 days.
Sources added that the prime minister will make the final decision on the proposal after consultation with the economic team. If the current economic situation remains challenging, the government is expected to take a decision soon.
Meanwhile, the federal government has also tightened monitoring to prevent hoarding of petroleum products across the country, officials said.
