Pakistan warns Afghan Taliban of more strikes if provocation continues

Pakistani forces targeted logistical support bases and infrastructure used by the militant groups, inflicting what were described as significant losses

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan’s armed forces have carried out what officials described as “precise and targeted operations” against militant hideouts inside Afghanistan, following a series of cross-border attacks blamed on groups operating from Afghan territory.

In an official statement issued by the Foreign Office, the authorities said that the action was taken in response to repeated attacks by banned outfits referred to as Fitna-al-Khawarij and Fitna-al-Hindustan, which Islamabad alleges have been launching assaults on Pakistani soil from sanctuaries across the border.

The statement also cited what it called “unwarranted and provocative actions” by the Afghan Taliban administration on the night of February 26.

According to the statement, Pakistani forces targeted logistical support bases and infrastructure used by the militant groups, inflicting what were described as significant losses.

Officials maintained that the operations were conducted under Pakistan’s right to self-defence to safeguard national security and protect civilians.

Islamabad warned that any further provocations by the Taliban-led government in Kabul, or attempts by militant groups to destabilize Pakistan, would draw a “measured, decisive and befitting response.”

Pakistan reiterated that it seeks peace and regional stability and has pursued diplomatic engagement to address concerns about militant activity emanating from Afghan territory.

However, it expressed regret that its “goodwill gestures” had not yielded the desired results, alleging that attacks had intensified with the backing of elements within the Afghan administration and with support from India.

The Government of Pakistan called on Afghan authorities to take concrete and verifiable action against militant networks operating on their soil and to end what it described as an atmosphere of impunity.

It also urged the international community to press the Taliban leadership to fulfill its commitments to prevent Afghan territory from being used for terrorism.

Pakistan emphasized that it reserves the right to take all necessary measures in self-defence in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.
