Five police officials in Gujranwala were arrested for allegedly facilitating a drug trafficker, as CPO Dr Sardar Ghiyas Gul Khan vowed strict accountability and zero tolerance.

GUJRANWALA (Dunya News) – Five police officials have been arrested in Gujranwala over allegations of facilitating a suspected drug trafficker, in what authorities described as an internal accountability drive within the force.

The action was taken on the directives of Dr Sardar Ghiyas Gul Khan, City Police Officer (CPO) Gujranwala, following revelations that certain officers were allegedly backing a drug smuggler identified as Sajid, also known as Sajo.

According to police sources, the arrested personnel include Sub-Inspector Shamim Ahmed, Assistant Sub-Inspector Muhammad Asif, and Constables عمران, Shahid Adnan and Yaseen. Cases under narcotics laws have been registered against the detained officials.

Dr Ghiyas Gul Khan stated that strict action would be taken against any officer found involved in supporting criminal elements. “The process of self-accountability within the department will continue without discrimination,” he said.

He further emphasised that no leniency would be shown towards those facilitating drug traffickers, reiterating the force’s commitment to eliminating narcotics-related crime and restoring public trust.

Police officials said investigations are ongoing and further arrests cannot be ruled out as the probe expands.
