Punjab tightens security on CM Maryam Nawaz's orders amid rising threats

Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz orders enhanced security; IGP Abdul Kareem directs stricter measures at religious sites, markets, borders, and tourist areas following regional terror incidents.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - In view of the current national security situation, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has instructed authorities to further strengthen security across the province.

A high-level meeting chaired by IG Punjab Abdul Kareem reviewed measures to ensure law and order. In light of recent terrorism incidents from a neighboring country, Abdul Kareem ordered enhanced security across Punjab.

He emphasized that protection for Chinese nationals, Sikh pilgrims, and other foreign tourists must be increased. Security measures at mosques, imambargahs, shrines, sensitive installations, and markets are to be intensified. Personnel at inter-provincial border checkpoints, religious sites, and other critical locations were directed to remain on high alert.

IG Abdul Kareem instructed district officials, CTD, Special Branch, and intelligence agencies to coordinate and ensure implementation of security protocols. Following recent drone-based terrorist activities, government restrictions under Section 144 must be strictly enforced.

Supervisory officers are to brief security staff at checkpoints and key locations regarding threat levels.

Special attention was directed towards women’s safety in bazaars and markets through deployment of lady police personnel. Suspicious vehicles, rickshaws, and cargo at city entry/exit points and sensitive locations are to be closely monitored. Intelligence-based search, sweep, and combing operations are to be accelerated, and identification and verification of travelers and hotel guests from other cities are to be ensured.

The meeting was attended by Additional IG Operations, Additional IG Special Branch, DIG Traffic, AIG Operations, AIG Development, and other senior officers. Additional IG CTD, CCPO Lahore, Additional IG South Punjab, Additional IG CCD, RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs participated via video link.
