LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday inaugurated a province-wide e-taxi scheme, describing it as a major step toward establishing a comprehensive “e-mobility ecosystem” while creating new employment opportunities.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, the chief minister announced that approximately 1,100 electric taxis would be provided at subsidised rates under the initiative. She said 30 per cent of the vehicles have been reserved for women, calling it a significant move toward inclusive economic participation.
She stated that Punjab had become the first province in the country to introduce such an initiative, adding that the project would not only contribute to environmental protection but also generate jobs.
Highlighting the government’s broader clean transport agenda, the chief minister referred to the province’s green bus programme and announced plans to expand modern transport facilities to all 148 tehsils of Punjab.
