Sindh Interior Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar chaired an emergency security meeting, ordering tighter airport controls, crackdown on weapons display, stronger coordination, strict National Action Plan

KARACHI (Web Desk) - An emergency high-level meeting on security threats was held at the Sindh Assembly under the chairmanship of Sindh Interior Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, where the prevailing security situation across the province was reviewed in detail.

Addressing the meeting, Lanjar said that in light of past incidents and accidents, tough decisions must be taken to prevent any untoward events. He emphasized that due to heavy crowds at the airport, security measures must be made foolproof.

He announced that only one to two individuals would be allowed for pick-and-drop at the airport. Highlighting Karachi’s status as Pakistan’s economic hub, he stressed that police must strengthen coordination with all law enforcement agencies. A comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) should be developed to ensure quick response at incident sites.

The minister stated that strong coordination with other provinces is being maintained in view of the current situation. He directed authorities to ensure the availability of search app devices in all prisons across Sindh. These devices must be used during snap checking, picketing, and combing operations. He also made it mandatory to deploy female searchers at all provincial entry and exit points.

Lanjar ordered an indiscriminate crackdown against the public display of weapons and called for full implementation of all clauses of the National Action Plan in both letter and spirit. He further directed strict enforcement of tenancy laws.

Additionally, he instructed authorities to maintain heightened surveillance at railway stations, bus terminals, truck stands, and other cargo and freight locations to prevent any security lapses.
