ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a summary to convene a joint sitting of Parliament on March 2, marking the formal commencement of the new parliamentary year.
The joint session will be held at 3pm on March 2, 2026, in accordance with constitutional requirements that mandate a presidential address at the start of each parliamentary year.
President Zardari will address the joint sitting for the ninth time in his capacity as head of state. His speech is expected to outline the government’s national priorities, democratic consolidation and the importance of constitutional supremacy.
According to officials, the address will also focus on sustainable economic growth, regional and global developments, and Pakistan’s foreign policy outlook. The president is further expected to reiterate the country’s resolve to combat terrorism, including efforts to eliminate militancy allegedly backed by external elements.
The annual presidential address traditionally sets the legislative and policy agenda for the year ahead and is attended by members of both houses of Parliament, senior government officials and dignitaries.
The upcoming session comes at a time of evolving regional dynamics and ongoing economic reforms, with the government seeking to project stability and institutional continuity.
