Punjab approves Rs1.14b for purchase of new vehicles for bureaucrats

Punjab government plans to purchase 108 vehicles worth Rs1.14bn for ministers, bureaucrats and inspection teams, including bulletproof and security vehicles, pending final approval.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The government of Punjab has decided to purchase 108 new vehicles worth Rs1.14 billion for ministers, senior bureaucrats and official inspection teams during the current fiscal year.

According to official sources, the transport wing has submitted recommendations to the provincial cabinet regarding the proposed procurement. The summary includes a proposal to acquire 28 vehicles for the Punjab cabinet at an estimated cost of Rs300 million.

The recommended fleet for cabinet members includes one Toyota Land Cruiser, two Haval 1.5 models, five Toyota Corolla Grande Altis, 10 Toyota Altis and 10 Toyota Yaris vehicles.

In addition, two bulletproof four-by-four vehicles worth Rs40 million are proposed for two ministers. The government had earlier granted permission for the purchase of bulletproof vehicles on security grounds.

Sources further revealed that recommendations to procure 25 vehicles worth Rs270 million for VIP security have already been approved.

For the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team, vehicles worth Rs530 million are proposed, including 30 double-cabin pick-up trucks, 11 Toyota Yaris and three Toyota Altis cars.

The inspection fleet will also include Suzuki Cultus cars and motorcycles.

Officials said the procurement process will begin once final approval is granted. The decision comes amid ongoing fiscal management efforts, with the provincial administration maintaining that operational and security requirements necessitate the purchase.
