Petition filed in Peshawar High Court against rising Ramazan inflation, seeking price control on flour, fruits and essentials. Court urged to seek report from authorities over inaction

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - A petition has been filed in the Peshawar High Court against the rising inflation during the holy month of Ramazan, urging authorities to take immediate steps to control the escalating prices of essential commodities.

The petition names the National Food Security authorities, Secretary Ministry of Food, Chief Secretary, and Commissioner Peshawar as respondents, holding them responsible for failing to curb the surge in prices.

According to the plea, soaring inflation has made it increasingly difficult for citizens to purchase basic food items.

The petitioner argued that the relevant authorities should be directed to immediately regulate the prices of essential commodities, especially during Ramazan when demand significantly increases.

The application states that the recent spike in prices during the sacred month has added to the financial burden on the public.

It further contends that illegal profiteering and unchecked price hikes amount to a violation of Article 3 of the Constitution, which emphasizes the elimination of exploitation.

The petitioner maintained that administrative negligence has contributed to the continuous rise in inflation, worsening the hardships faced by ordinary citizens on a daily basis.

The court has been requested to seek a detailed report from the concerned authorities outlining the measures taken so far to control inflation. The plea also urges the administration to strictly regulate the prices of flour, fruits, vegetables, and other essential items to ensure relief for the public during Ramazan.
