SECP denies reports of foreign companies exiting Pakistan

SECP rejects claims of foreign firms’ mass exit, says 79 new foreign companies registered since 2022 while only 19 closed; 1,157 remain registered nationwide.

KARACHI (Dunya News) - The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has rejected reports suggesting a large-scale exit of foreign companies from Pakistan.

In a statement issued from Karachi, the commission clarified that only 19 foreign companies were closed between 2022 and 2025, while 79 new foreign companies were registered in Pakistan during the same period.

The commission further explained that the figure of 125 companies refers to the total number of foreign companies closed since 1977. It added that the SECP website clearly mentions the year of closure for each company and alleged that the data had been misleadingly presented with malicious intent.

The commission also stated that currently 1,157 foreign companies are registered in Pakistan. In January 2026 alone, 82 local companies received foreign investment. Investments came from countries including China, United States, United Kingdom, Turkey, Australia, and Germany.
